Dear Sir,
Your recent coverage (English Churchman 8079) of affairs in the Free Church of England raised a question for me. It was not about the allegations as reported, but the revelation that the FCE had an octogenarian ordinand. Congratulations to its new presbyter, the Revd Sir Laurence New, ordained last October at the age of 88. I wish him well in his ministry. My question Is whether Rev Sir Laurence is the oldest person to be ordained in the British Isles, or indeed the world. I have confidence your readers will be able to advise whether Guinness Book of World Records should be informed.
Yours faithfully,
EM Brown
