Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast Addressed by NT Wright
The 2021 Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast sponsored by Christians in Parliament and the Bible Society was held electronically on last Friday, 24 June. It was hosted by Rt Hon. Dame Andrea Leadsom (C) from the confines of Westminster Hall, London.
Former Bishop of Durham, Dr NT (Tom) Wright was the featured speaker. His address focussed around his idea of Three Markers for Life Post Covid. He called his viewers to 1.) Lament—because lamentation grows out of the belief that God will eventually sort out the problems of this world; 2.) Forgive, because many are very angry over the effects of the Pandemic and that anger is never a good base for hope and restoration; and, 3.) Rebuilding— by putting the needs of the weak to the forefront of life in a post Covid society.
Members of Christians in Parliament from all major parties participated in the event. In addition to Dame Leadsom, those taking part were: Ruth Jones (L), Marsha de Cordova (L), Dr Lisa Cameron (SNP), Taiwo Owetani (L), Lord Alton of Liverpool (Cross-bench), Jim Shannon (DUP), Tim Farron (Lib-Dem), and Lord Boateng (L).
