Bishop John Shelby Spong Dead at 90
Former bishop of the Diocese of Newark in The Episcopal Church, John Shelby Spong died on 12 September. He was ninety years of age.
Spong, known for his rude manner and ability to self publicise his heretical beliefs, had retired to Richmond, Virginia where he attended St Paul’s Episcopal Church.
A native of North Carolina, Spong authored over 20 books. The chief theme of all could be described by the question, “Did God really say?”
His tenure as bishop saw a steady decline in membership and attendance.
