Christ the Mediator

This slim book reproduces articles featured in the opening editions of the journal of the Inverness seminary of the Free Church of Scotland (Continuing). The articles expound a wholesome Christology rooted in the scriptures and guided by the Shorter Catechism of the Westminster Assembly. A careful Calvinistic line is taken on issues such a particular atonement and problems with other systematisations deftly pointed out. Morrison seeks to present the essentials of Christ’s offices and work rather than to engage with contemporary academic opinion, much of which would be a significant distraction for both author and reader. Nonetheless some critical engagement with texts more recent than Edwards, Lightfoot, and Berkhof, such as the short series by the Bishop Emeritus of Rome, might have been welcome. These pages are spiritually refreshing and cannot fail but to delight readers once more in the glories of the saviour.
