TBS Offers New Translation In Desauri Tharu Language
The Trinitarian Bible Society has continue to make progress in a translation of the Bible into the Desauri Tharu language.
Desauri is one of the Tharu language variants spoken by the Tharu people of the Terai region in Nepal and in the neighbouring regions of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar in India. The language is written in the Devanagari script.
In early 2021 the Society commenced detailed correspondence with a contact from a small group of Reformed churches in Nepal who have a burden to see a Bible prepared in the Desauri Tharu language.
In September 2021 the Society approved the commencement of a pilot Desauri Tharu Bible translation project, with a small team of translators based in Nepal. By January 2022 they had finalised the Gospel according to John and by April it had been checked by the TBS Editorial Department and approved by the General Committee for publication.
It is hoped that we can obtain ongoing support for this small translation team to continue working on the rest of the New Testament. Please remember this new project in your prayers.
