Archbishop of Jerusalem & the Middle East to Retire

The Archbishop of Jerusalem & the Middle East, The Most Revd Michael Lewis has announced the date of his retirement.  He will retire at midnight on 8 June 2023.

The statement from the diocesan offices in Nicosia, Cyprus was released on 8 January.

It said, “Archbishop Michael announces, in conformity with Article 13b of the Constitution of the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East, that he will resign as Bishop of the Diocese of of Cyprus  and the Gulf at midnight on 8 June 2023, the Feast of Corpus Christi.

“He will previously have been succeeded in the Primacy of the Province by the Most Reverend Hosam Naoum of the Diocese of Jerusalem on 12 May 2023.

“Over more than fifteen years Julia and Michael have travelled together across the length and breadth of the diocese.  They will continue to have their home in Cyprus, close to where their youngest son George has his grave, and their other children and grandchildren intend to visit regularly. 

“Please pray for them in stein the coming months of transition.”
