Bingo’s Ordination?
Dear Sir,
The Church of England has been ordaining men for centuries, and since the 1990s has had legal authority to ordain women to the priesthood also. According to your recent report, the Revd Bingo Allison declared, “I’m not a man and I’m not a woman, I’m something else.”
Since the Church of England has no legal mandate to ordain to the priesthood anyone other than a man or a woman, what then is the status of Bingo’s orders? Was the ordination of the Revd Bingo Allison in September 2020 legal and valid?
One for the ecclesiastical lawyers, methinks.
