Essex Memory Verse Rally
The Essex Protestant Council held its annual Memory Verse Rally on Saturday, 11th March at ‘Rehoboth’ Strict Baptist Chapel, Sible Hedingham. Friends from Essex, Kent, London and Suffolk gathered, and children from fellowships in these areas recited Matthew 6:25-34.
Certificates and gifts were given to those who took part; and Pastor Neil Pfeiffer from Swansea spoke helpfully on the seven sayings of the Lord Jesus on the cross. He ably showed that each of these manifested the grace of God in saving sinners and that the Saviour’s work was that of substitution.
Luke and John each record three of the sayings and Matthew records the other. Mark does not record any different saying. The order in which Mr Pfeiffer spoke of these sayings was (1) ‘Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.’ (2) ‘Verily, I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with Me in paradise.’ (3) ‘Woman, behold thy son!’ and ‘Behold thy mother!’ (4) ‘My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?’ (5) ‘I thirst.’ (6) ‘It is finished.’ and (7) ‘Father, into Thy hands I commend My spirit.’
