Archbishop of Canterbury Fined £510 for Speeding

The Most Revd Justin Welby was fined £510 for driving 25 mph in a 20 mph zone.  He was caught by a speed camera along the embankment of the Thames on 2 October 2022.

The initial fine was for £300 but was not recorded as having been paid so the additional £210 was added to the amount owed.  The Archbishop’s spokesman said that he had tried to pay the fine, but that the online system was not working.

The spokesman said, “He has all the paperwork to prove that he has tried to pay.  Admin errors seem to be causing the problems.”

Mr Welby is not alone in the matter. Many have fallen afoul of the traffic system in London as the Mayor of London has made using an automobile in the capital much less user friendly.
